Jobs I Can Do At Home: How to Build A Website?

May 4, 2012
Mary

What kind of website should I build?

Choosing a niche can be both time consuming and frustrating, so if this is your first website it is my suggestion that you start with something you know, something that you will enjoy writing about. Almost everyone has a hobby or interest that they are passionate about, whether it is cooking, pets, child care, and sewing, or even if it is something that annoys you, anything that you have an avid curiosity about.

How to find a free website?

Blogger.com is one choice of free website; you can monetize your site with both Google Adsense and Amazon products. Another is Zoofer.com where all the monetization is already done for you, all you have to do is the writing and they take care of the rest. Squidoo.com is also a site with the monetization already done for you. All these sites provide earn while you learn potential, and are great for just getting started, choose one or all, go to the site, sign up, and just start writing.

Your own website:

Some people prefer to buy their own website instead of making a sub-domain on someone else’s website. If this is the case you will need a domain name, something.com or .net, etc. To register a domain name you must go to someplace like Namecheap.com or GoDaddy.com and search to see if the name that you have chosen is available (if not putting hyphens between the words, or a before the name can help). It usually cost around $10 to register a domain name for one year.

Hosting:

Now that you have registered your domain name you have to find a host. Hosting is where you can upload files and other things to your website. JustHost.com, BenjiHost.com, and HostGator.com are three hosting companies. Hosting plans cost around $100 dollars a year however; they are mostly billed in monthly installments.

What to do after buying a domain name and hosting?

Your hosting company will send you a confirmation email, within it will be a username and password for your cpanel. Log on to your cpanel and watch the getting started videos provided within. It is my suggestion that you install wordpress onto your domain, with wordpress you have access to free themes, and pluggins that are very useful for your blogging. After you install wordpress, just start posting content.

Monetizing your website:

Adding advertisement and affiliate links are ways to make money from your website. They are simple and free to sign up for. The three that come to mind are Google Adsense, Amazon.com, and ClickBank, each will have an explanation of how you get paid. It is totally up to you, add one, all, or none to your domain.

Keep working:

It may take weeks, months, even years before you see any results from your website. In the meantime keep posting and providing valuable information to the content of your website, keep updating, and keep learning; it is good for the soul.

Caution: Jobs I Can Do At Home!

January 24, 2012
Mary

Beware of jobs that can be done at home schemes.  “Would you like to earn thousands of dollars each week in your spare time in the leisure of your own home?  Just click here and get free access to the most valuable information you will ever receive.”  Sound familiar, well some of us are just desperate enough to fall for those schemes.  I have learned the hard way that if it sounds too good to be true then it probably isn’t.

It is all over the internet; some self proclaiming guru is going to give you all the secrets to their success, so that you too can make millions from part time jobs that can be done from home.  Wake up and smell the coffee, no one is going to tell you their secrets, it is against human nature, every “guru” wants to outdo the other, even if they had any secrets to tell.  They have virtually all gotten rich off of your hard earned money, by telling you they have all the answers, when the only question is, are you going to give them your money?  I say absolutely not, I need my money to feed my family, how about you?

I understand that these proposals have very attractive offers, especially if you are unable to leave home to work.  However, be extremely cautious of “part-time jobs that can be done from home”.  What many of these ads do not tell you is that you may have to work many hours with little or no pay.  It takes months if not years to see any real profit from any quest you under take on the internet.  And watch for those hidden fees, sure they say “no hidden fees” but always read the fine print.  “Your own completely built website for just $1”, what they do not tell you is it will cost you an exuberant amount each month for “rent”, it is some sub domain of a sub domain, you have no control over the content, that you have to do all the promoting with your own time and money, and all the while they sit back and reap the profits.  Sounds good correct, incorrect, once again you would just be putting money into some “guru’s” pocket.

Let’s face it, no matter what kind of job you do, job is the synonym for work.  And it takes a lot of hard work and time to be successful on the internet, it take a great deal of determination and perseverance; there are no get rich quick schemes.   The truth of the matter is only 1 in 10 people succeed in making a living on the internet.  Other home businesses that have been successful include child care services, dress shops, consignment shops, bakery services, research, and typing, just to mention a few.

However, if you are determined to start your own online business, and don’t get me wrong there are some legitimate online jobs online, please follow these few simple rules.  Never purchase anything that is outside of your budget, always look for the things that are really free.  Never pay with your credit card, set up a Pay Pal account (it is free).  Always purchase software from some entity like Click Bank which has an iron clad guarantee, and within sixty days if you are not satisfied with your purchase, get your money back!

I sincerely hope that this has helped you in some way.  I know times are tough, and I don’t want to burst your bubble, but I do really want you to succeed in whatever you decide to do, just be cautious, and as my mother would say, take everything with a grain of salt!

Jobs I Can Do At Home-How to Become A Video Game Tester?

Mary

Being a professional video game tester is the absolute dream job for some of you Jobs I Can Do At Home seekers. Most gamers would love the chance to be able to play great, never before released video games, and get paid for it. Unfortunately though, most gamers think that paid video game testing is too far out of reach and will remain a dream forever. Well luckily, it’s not a dream and anyone can be a paid video game tester with the right amount of experience and guidance.

The following steps should help you get started with a career in professional video game testing:

Step 1: Don’t Wait For Jobs to Find You, Get Out There and Find Them.

Video game tester jobs are not going to fall from the sky, so you can’t expect to find them with a few glances at the Sunday newspaper. Instead of just sitting around and waiting, be proactive and actually chase those high paying testing jobs.

Make a beeline straight toward the game developers and present your case, no matter how poor or excellent it might be. Let them know who you are, what you do (game tester), and why you would make a great addition to their team.

It’s important to remember that developers aren’t going to hire you on the spot; so, don’t let rejection get you down. They have lots of video game testers applying for projects and jobs, which means employers’ can literally be as picky as they want to be. With that being said, be as confident as you can and let them know of all your gaming accomplishments and deeds. They should know about what games you play frequently, what consoles you own, what communities you are apart of, and any websites you own or help operate. No matter what the gaming accomplishment, big or small, it will help with landing you a job.

Step 2: Don’t Think “Hobby with Pay”, Think “Career With Benefits!”

You have to keep in mind that developers pay video game testers as part of a job. They are not paying testers to merely enjoy video games at their expense. Therefore, when you land a testing job, don’t simply play it to have fun; play it like you are earning a paycheck. Does that mean you can’t have any fun? No; it simply means you shouldn’t make “fun” your top priority while testing video games.

If you take each and every testing job seriously, give it your all, you should have a much more successful game testing career.

Step 3: Know What To Expect.

The biggest part of being a professional video game tester is knowing the golden rule; which is “You are paid to test games, not to play them.” There may be a fine line between the two, but any real game tester will tell you that the difference is definitely there.

The subtle difference between testing and playing is, well, work. A game tester will have to do actual work, such as filing reports & filling out questionnaires; as opposed to a regular game player, who will just relax and play the game at a leisurely pace. Admittedly, the work isn’t back breaking, but it is work nonetheless.

The questionnaires are the easier part of game testing, as all the video game tester has to do is answer some general questions about the game and give his/her honest opinion. The reports, on the other hand, are a bit more difficult. These reports need to be filed on every bug/glitch that the tester comes across, and they have to be remarkably accurate. In each report, the video game tester has to describe what happened, where it happened, and how it happened. With this detailed information in hand, the developers and programmers will then fix the problem and find out why it happened in the first place. Every video game goes through this basic cycle, which is precisely why video game testers are so vital to the gaming industry.

As you can see, there really isn’t all that much work involved with video game testing, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a serious profession.

Step 4: Build up a Network of Reliable Contacts.

Networking is a crucial part of professional video game testing. Although it is quite possible to have a prosperous career without a reliable network, having one just makes things easier.

A network of contacts can actually help your career in many different ways. The biggest thing it can do is give you heads up about new job openings and testing assignments that have been announced. Also, some of your contacts can even act as valuable references when applying for testing jobs. And, as if those two things weren’t enough, your network can give you the inside scoop about what’s going on behind closed doors.

Much like a video game tester job, a reliable network is not going to just jump out at you. Therefore, you will have to build it up all on your own. The best way to do that is by getting to know the industry and the people who work in it. Anyone that spends time around video games (professionally, of course) can be included in your network; game testers, developers, programmers, concept artists, art designers, graphics designers, technical support specialists, audio specialists, etc. Basically, if they know video games and work with video games, you want them in your network.

Step 5: Don’t Give Up. Keep Trying!

The unfortunate fact is that you are not going to land a video game tester job whenever you want one. As a matter of fact, it may be weeks or even months before you land your first testing job. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have what it takes; it just means you have to keep trying & giving it your best. Not many newcomers start off at the top of their game, which means you likely won’t either. Just give it time. After a few months and a few jobs, you should be able to get your footing and begin advancing in your career as a professional video game tester.

This Jobs I Can Do At Home is a very serious career move and should be taken as such, it is not all fun and games! To find everything from how to prepare the perfect resume to the right people to contact and how to “walk the walk” go to Become A Game Tester and let the games begin!
